Zec Bras-Coupé-Désert has some 400 lakes, 130 of which are frequented in summer. This period is conducive to catching brook trout, lake trout, splake (a delicious hybrid species), walleye, pike, yellow perch and bass.

 

 

 
Ice Fishing
 

In winter period, the ice fishing is possible in one of the 35 open lakes (with 9 for brook trout).

Hunting is very popular on the territory of the zec. Hunting enthusiasts have the opportunity to practise bow or firearm hunting. Which hunting activities can be practised on the territory? The zec, which is located in zone 10 West, offers to users various hunting packages. In spring and fall, bear hunting is open. In fall, the following species can be hunted : small game (ruffed grouse, American woodcock and snowshoe hare), moose and white-tailed deer.

Camp for rent

 

The zec now offers the rental camp. Rustic cottage fully furnished with convenient option to take advantage of nature with family or friends.

Equipment: Stove and fridge (propane), cookware, dishes and utensils, fireplace and propane lighting, hot waetr, toilet and shower. You can bring a generator. Just bring your personal belongings, bedding, soap, towels, food and drinking water.

Canoe-camping enthusiasts can try their hand at river descents and canoe on lakes. As part of a two- to five-day course, you can start on Gagamo Lake then canoe on Ignace River, Croche Lake, Désert Lake, Rond Lake and Désert River. Natural beaches without lifeguard, small campsites and R1 to R4 rapids await you! The northern part of the zec, which has no facilities as such, is frequented by those who are looking for something to nibble on. Indeed, you can pick wild blueberries there. Anyone interested?

 
   
 

The reception desks of zec Bras-Coupé-désert open at mid-May and and close on the mid-November. Tortue and Tomasine reception desk opens with this schedule : from Monday to Wednesday (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.), Thursdays and Fridays (from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and Saturdays and Sundays (from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.).

There are launch ramps in the zec. One can also buy the worms in the zec. It is possible to use a cellular phone on the territory of the zec at some places identified by signs.

Other services are available near the zec (within 25 km) such as gas station, grocery store, drugstore, convenience store, tourist information and hospital.
